Schedule a Pelvic Floor Evaluation

Once you decide you would like to schedule an evaluation, our front office staff will be able to make that experience easy for you. When you call the main number (419-893-7134; option 5), the front office staff will get all of the important information from you in terms of verifying your insurance and discussing the process of getting a referral for physical therapy services.

Women's FormsInformation you will need to have ready is:

  • Name, address and phone number
  • Men's FormsInsurance information (have card ready)
  • The doctor who is referring you to us
  • The referring doctor’s phone number
  • The type of evaluation you will need (pelvic pain, bladder control issues, frequency, bowel control issues, sexual dysfunction)

Once that information is gathered, a 1.5 hour evaluation will be scheduled for you. After your evaluation, your therapist will work with you for setting up additional 1 hour visits, usually just 1 visit per week. This may vary depending on what is discovered during the evaluation, your work schedule or distance traveled.

It is important that you complete your new patient packet information PRIOR to your visit to allow more time for your evaluation.  Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Your Evaluation will be Thorough!

The women’s/men’s health physical therapists have been specifically trained to work with pelvic floor dysfunctions. They will make you feel comfortable talking about the diagnosis you were referred for.

They will take the time needed to listen to your concerns and come up with a comprehensive treatment approach to meet your goals.

Typically the initial evaluation lasts for 1-1.5 hours and your future appointments will be set up at that time. Usually the patients are only seen 1x/week, however will be adjusted as needed

During the initial evaluation the therapist will:

• Take a comprehensive medical history

• Educate you on the anatomy and physiology of the pelvic floor and organs• Perform a Postural Assessment

• Assess your Flexibility

• Assess your Deep Abdominal Strength

• Do a Biofeedback Assessment (see below)

• Perform an internal assessment of your pelvic floor muscles as needed. (Helps to assess for strength, scar tissue mobility and muscular tension.)

Your Treatment will be One-on-One!

Follow up appointments are usually 45-60 minutes.

During the one on one session with your physical therapist, your therapist will use biofeedback, manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, functional exercises and educate you in a comprehensive home exercise program tailored to your needs to meet the goals you have set together.

Treatment techniques include:

Biofeedback: Ensures you are using your pelvic floor muscles properly. (This is similar to an EKG – an EKG measures the activity of your heart as Biofeedback measures the activity of your pelvic floor muscles) This can assist with either activating your pelvic floor muscles if they are weak or relaxing your pelvic floor muscles if they are tight.

Manual therapy: This can assist to improve scar mobility or allow your pelvic floor muscles to activate or relax. This will be performed with “hands on ” techniques or with medicupping.

Therapeutic Exercise: This will include a variety of forms of exercise including pilates-based rehab and yoga individualized to your needs.

Home Exercise Program: These specific exercises will assist in progressing you towards your goals.
