Medicupping Therapy
Medicupping at Karen Liberi MS, MPT, WCS Pelvic Rehabilitation & Wellness can consist of manual medicupping or medicupping with use of vacuum machine.
This strategy is used dynamically at our practice to assist with improving abdominal scar tissue mobility and to assist with improved blood and lymphatic flow.
This is often used in conjunction with other Physical Therapy strategies to minimize abdominal pain, pelvic pain and decrease constipation.
Uses of medicupping include:
- Lymph drainage
- Scar reduction
- Pre-operative management of swelling
- Post-operative management of swelling
- Releasing tight, contracted muscle tissue
Conditions treated with Medicupping:
- Fibromyalgia
- Poor Circulation
- Sciatica
- Chronic Pain
- Arthritis
- Neuralgia
- Sluggish Colon & IBS
- Stagnant Lymph Edema
- Pre- & Post-Operative Conditions
- Scars & Adhesions (such as C-section and other scars from abdominal surgeries)
- Endometriosis (to help decrease the restrictions of restricted endometrial tissue)
- Muscular Aches
Medicupping is also known as Vacuum therapy and is not an irritant to the body. There may be some skin “redness” with use of medicupping as the vacuum allows for blood circulation to be brought to the surface. Some who have experienced previous cupping that is static (non-moving suction) may have had bruising in the area of the suction. NWO Center for Pelvic Rehabilitation and Wellness uses primarily “dynamic” or “constantly moving” cupping and bruising generally does not occur with the application technique we use. Our PTA, Peg Zientek, has her Medicupping Certificate.
